Losing a policy purchased yourself for individual health coverage

Losing your individual health coverage may make you qualified for Special Enrollment Period, that includes:

  • The market plan for your individual plan is discontinued and doesn’t exist any longer.
  • You have a student health plan and are no longer eligible.
  • You no longer live in the plans service area and are no longer eligible.
  • You choose not to renew a group health plan and the plan year is ending middle of the calendar year.

It’s important to understand that you do not qualify for Special Enrollment Period if you drop your coverage voluntarily or you failed to pay your premiums as well if you did not provide sufficient documentation allowing the Marketplace to resolve any data matching issues.
