When can you join Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage)?
Important 2016 dates to remember
October 1, 2015–Is when you can begin to gather information and evaluate the different Part D plans. Note: No enrollments will be accept before Oct. 2015 for 2016 plans.
October 15 to Dec. 7, 2015–is the annual coordinated election period and is when you may join a Part D plan for 2016 but it won’t go into effect until Jan. 1, 2016. If you have a 2015 plan this is your chance to make a choice for your 2015 coverage such as keeping your current plan or switching to a new plan. There is no enrollment needed to renew your current plan. Note: If you do not enroll during this period, your next chance to enroll is in Jan. 2017.
Jan. 1, 2016–Your new Part D plan will be in effect and you mat start yo use your benefits. Note: Your old plan will be automatically cancelled .
Jan. 1 to Feb. 14, 2016–Enrollees in Medicare Advantage plans may dis-enroll from their plan and select a stand-alone Medicare Part D plan and return to original Medicare.
Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2016–Those turning 65 may in enroll in a 2016 Medicare Part D plan. Medicare enrolls may change or enroll into a 2016 Medicare Part D plan.
