Medigap Plan L costs will include copayments, coinsurance, premiums, and deductibles. Because Plan L has a higher level of cost-sharing than other Medigap plans enrollees will be responsible for more than a monthly plan premium.
Premiums associated with Medigap Plan L polices are generally lower than the premiums associated with other Medigap Plan, however; the costs will differ between carriers. Some carriers may set premiums based on age while others will set a standard premium unrelated to age.
Unlike other Medigap Plans, Plan L include out-of-pocket limits. Because Plan L includes more cost sharing than other plans, the government will place a $2,400 limit on annual out-of-pocket expenses to protect beneficiaries from excessive spending.
After enrollees reach this limit and pay his or her Medicare Part B deductible, Medigap will pay 100% of costs for the remainder of the calendar year.
