Washington Medicare

Many Medicare beneficiaries living in Washington and trying to find out more how Medicare coverage works may find themselves overwhelmed. There are a variety of Medicare coverage options available in Washington.

There are several plans and options:

  • Part A and Part B are part of the original Medicare. If you are staying with original Medicare you may want to look into a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan.
  • Medicare Part C – Medicare Advantage plan
  • Medicare Part D – prescription drug Coverage

Original Medicare Part A and Part B.

Medicare Part A

  • Inpatient hospital
  • Post-hospitalization nursing facility care and some post-hospitalization home health care
  • Hospice care.

Medicare Part B

  • Outpatient services
  • Doctor visits
  • Certain disease prevention screenings and exams
  • Lab tests
  • X-rays
  • Medical equipment
  • Physical therapy
  • Some home health care services

Original Medicare does not cover all services you might need.

As an example, Original Medicare doesn’t cover:

  • Most prescription drugs you might take at home
  • Long-term care and nursing home services
  • Health-care services outside the United States
  • Routine – Dental care and dental items like dentures
  • Routine – Vision care, eye wear like glasses.

Deductibles and coinsurance can be more expensive, expressly if you have a prolonged stay in the hospital or a facility with skilled nursing as well as numerous hospitalizations within the year.
