Medicare Mistakes and Myths

Medical expenses and Medicare are among the most misunderstood parts of retirement spending and retirement. Surveys have documented how ill-informed both individuals and financial professionals are on these topics. It is no wonder that the leading reason for financial difficulties in retirements is cited as medical expenses that are not covered by Medicare insurance.

Below are 2 items that often costs retirees a lot of money:

  • You are suppose to enroll in Medicare Part B or C within 7 months, which begins three months before your 65th birthday. It will end three months after that birthday, which includes your birthday month. It does not matter if you are beginning Social Security benefits.
  • In most cases if someone does not enroll in Medicare during this time, when they enroll for it they will pay penalties or higher premiums for the rest of your life. The same will go for Part D coverage.
